And I found a topic I rant about at home all the time. I thought I’d share…
Topic: Why I hate reality TV
TV has become a obstacle course of bad behavior. Lying, cheating, slander and devious intent towards others. Why do people watch this? The “reality” is beyond me. Therefore I limit my TV viewing to comedy and movies, for the most part.
I’ll clarify. I enjoy the “real” reality shows. Discovery, The History Channel (although with all the revisionism being taught throughout, one must study to have the correct information), the Food Network and the DYI’s of TV viewing. Information and education are truly the only reality in the box.
So what are my complaints? Well if I wanted to wallow in all that is wrong with humanity. If I wanted to feel more secure in my existence at the expense of another’s tragic experiences, I certainly would not want such televised. Therefore I do not watch. I find it profoundly tragic that people are willing to be revealed for the sinning beasts that they are, in such a public manner. It concerns me, to my spirit, that this behavior is not only condoned, but actually encouraged. Why? For TV ratings. If the individual’s participating thought about it, and they must have, they are putting themselves out there in this negative and damaging manner for the increase and prosperity of others. Networks, network executives and the like are profiting from these individuals bad behavior. If these “participants” thought this through, and they must have, they are gambling on “maybe” winning the prize money, at the expense of having the nations know what lowly humans they are willing to make themselves.
I realize that I continue to say this, but there is no word better, this is tragic. We can see the negative effects surfacing. How many of these “reality characters” (and yes we somehow convince ourselves they are characters; they are not they are real everyday people!)have ended up in the news and on “entertainment rag sheet shows” for having been arrested for various criminal acts? At least three that I am aware of, not to mention the constant press on the personal defects of the “hosts” loves and lives. Its garbage being fed to a society that will eat anything.
I see no good coming of the reality machine. There is now a show that makes you tell the truth with loved ones in the audience. They know the questions beforehand and they know that they are not guaranteed which questions will come up and they know that their husband, wife, mother will be there to witness the answers. Yet, the money is so enticing, they choose to harm the very ones they love, themselves, their families and friends, for money they have no guarantee of winning. Tragic!
I find this form of entertainment negative and damaging. It is contrary to helping a society in need find the good in their lives. It only manages to reinforce negative and bad to criminal behaviors in those involved and those watching. It conjures a unnatural desire to harm oneself and family for the possibility of payment. It is the legalized prostitution of human character and the everyday family. The watchers feel better about themselves for not having sunk as low as those in the show, while coveting the recognition, perceived power and riches of those same “lowly characters” in the program.
This entertainment medium, for me, confirms ultimately the biblical warning about the love of money.
Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless. Ecclesiastes 5:10
It is meaningless in the end, to seek money in this manner. It is meaningless to malign oneself, family and friends for money. It will not be enough to fix the damage incurred to the hearts, souls and spirits of the people involved.
No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. Matthew 6:24
Its tragic that people would sacrifice themselves for money in this manner. Enough said here.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:10
If this is not money at its most evil, I do not know what is. These individuals have wandered from all faith and knowledgeably pierce themselves with many griefs.
How is this form of entertainment benefiting anyone, aside from network people and the participants’ 15 minutes of fame? I do not see the benefit, therefore I do not watch the programs. In my current stage of life I prefer to keep the box black, rather than blacken my spirit and soul with the sinful nature of the entertainment machine.
How do any of these improve ones life…Tragic TV is more like it.
