Wondering what the 31 Day Writing project is about? You can find the particulars on
Now for Day 2 in this journey.
Yesterday I referred to my blog as a journey, and I believe for the most part personal blogs are the telling of one’s journey through life. And as writers and bloggers and people we journal these travels of ours for various reasons. The main reason, it seems, is for communication and community. After all just look at the 1000+ writers who’ve decided to participate in this 31 day initiative. And for the most part it is to communicate our personal stories in our community, while reaching further out and gathering for a larger community … I think it was Lisa-Jo who said that there were 769ish writers doing the 31 days last year … this year I am 1036 on a growing list! The other underlying reason we writers join these projects is to improve our writing flow and skill.
The issue is I have come to be a competitive writer, which I feel is an oxymoron. Writing is not a competitive sport! But I read the amazing posts of some of these women and feel my writing isn’t up to par.
This is a lie from the pit of hell. My writing is simply of a different style and perspective. I’ve found I compare myself to others because of a less than functional upbringing which lead to a need to please others. It is only now at the ripe old age of 47 that I am learning ::LEARNING:: that the only opinion of me and my work [which is my calling] is God.
” Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trust in the LORD is kept safe.”
Fear (reverence of man) is a trap! A trap that we often walk into willingly, a trap we sometimes ask for by asking for someone’s opinion.
My sponsor taught me [and this took a very long time to permeate my thick skull] that your opinion of me is none of my business. I find, finally, that the adage is correct. Your opinion of me automatically hinders my focusing on God’s opinion of me!
Any opinion of me has the ability [and quite frankly, and not your intent at all, is meant] to paralyze me in my calling; whether it be praise or criticism.
Wanting or trusting the opinion of another leads us to have a warped view of who we are, what we do and how we are in life. We are human, God made us this way, with this desire to please and a forgetfulness that forces us to ::FOCUS:: on the things of God to avoid the trap of opinions.
Yes, even our own opinion of ourselves is a warped view. Molded by parents and teachers and others who were in authority over us in our formative years. Yet for those of us who were brought up in the Word; whether from our youth or from when we became reborn in Christ, we know that we were created by a loving God for a purpose …
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
We must ::FOCUS:: on who God made us. We must refuse what men say we should be.
We must ::FOCUS:: on what God called us to do. We must refuse to compromise that calling because of the critique of another.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” ~ Matthew 11:28-30 Mssg.
Today I’m going to focus on what God has for me this day … I am going to post this even while I feel it may not be cohesive … I’m going to trust God that I have said here what He wanted me to say. To say that writing comes naturally to me would be accurate … however, the ease with which I write is hindered by my natural inclination to please man … and I cannot please all of you, because we are human. I can only please my God consistantly, by being obedient to the call to write what He would have me write.
I’m going to ::FOCUS:: this day on what is True and RIGHT [Philippians 4:8]according to my relationship with God.
