A Very Courageous Prayer; Dangerous Even!

Dear God
I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt; Put me to doing, put me to suffering. Let me be employed by thee or laid aside for thee, exalted for thee or brought low by thee. Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, thou art mine, and I am thine.

So be it.

And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.

This was a prayer of John Wesley .

A VERY COURAGEOUS and DANGEROUS prayer!

I first saw it on Ann Kroeker’s Blog post aptly titled: So Be It. Ann was daunted and challenged by this prayer. After reading her post I found myself feeling the same way.

Well when I feel daunted by a thing or an act I find it is something I must do. Like I am being called to it, by God. There is no fear, unless we are referring to reverence, just a sense of challenge. A sense that I am ready to do this thing … for God, because of God.

I have also found that when I do these things I glorify God. Not by my act or deed, but by my sheer desire to please and trust Him and His Will for my life.

So … in reference to my earlier post I am going to continue my journey with this prayer.

I will pray it everyday … I will seek it’s transformation of me … I will surrender, as best I can, each day, maybe moment to moment to what it is God has for me.

To insure that I say this prayer I made a script pic for it. I changed the wording to todays language for ease, yet, I have copied it on paper so as not to allow it to become a routine prayer, rendering it rote and fruitless.

Does this prayer daunt you? Do you find it to be a prayer of Courage or Danger?

This prayer has already had effect in me and on my life. It WILL change you … transform you … It will bring you into the presence and will of God.

  1. Love this Andrea- thanks for the updated modern version- yes and amen!
Have just discovered you thru Five Minute Fridays. I don’t have a blog but love reading others, and am greatly blessed by what talented writers like you share with us all. God Bless you!
The most amazing prayer I ever prayed was one day when i felt the Holy Spirit move on me. I said “Lord-I want to be in the centre of your will”. Within 3 months I had moved to a new home to be near a new job and was in a much better church- talk about WOW ~! I have been happily here for 4 years now, and it’s so great having a job I love so much, doing what God called me to do/be. May you continue to be blessed because you have prayed this prayer here.
    God Bless from New Zealand.

    • Thank you so much … I didn’t realize that you had commented until today. Forgive me the delay. I am so very happy this moved you. I remain awed at how God uses me here.
      Blessings to you.
